Fiona – a prematurely born Nile hippo – has taken to the water for a dip after some serious health scares.
The adorable calf only weighed 29 pounds when she was born at Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
She’s had a tough time of it since, being diagnosed with dehydration so severe she was placed on an IV (intravenous drip) and the zoo called in help from a local hospitals Vascular Access Team, a group that works with prematurely born (human) children.
But thanks to the dedication and round-the-clock care by staff at Cincy zoo, Fiona looks to be on her way back to full health.
To celebrate Fiona’s return to the pool – she’s already outgrown two pools so far! – the zoo has released adorable footage of the moment (see top).
